The tensile-strength test is inherently fruitless; in the process of collating research, the sample is wasted. Although this is excusable when a safe supply of the sample is at hand, nondestructive tests are desirable for materials that are dear or arduous to fabricate or that have been constructed into completed or semicompleted products.
